The Boulders Resort Golf Course has a North and South Course.  Both are
scenic, but  the South Course is the most scenic.  The North Course has more
fairway to work with.  The two courses are strikingly beautiful and
characterized by rugged desert terrain and boulders everywhere as you might
expect. Several of your shots are blind approaches to the fairway or greens.
The resort is first class and you should expect to pay accordingly.

Cave Creek, Arizona

Rancho Manana Golf Course is my favorite short course.  This course has
drastic elevation changes with scenic view of the valley.  You are either hitting
to an elevated green on the par 4's & 5's, or teeing off to par 3 green way
down the hillside.

Dove Valley Ranch Golf Club is player friendly, with transition areas that allow
you to recover without penalty.  Some fairways give you a choice of landing
areas.  I consider this to be a desert style course that mixes sand and water
with scenic vistas.

Fountain Hills, Arizona

Sunridge Canyon Golf Course is part of SunCor Golf.  Their players discount
card is well worth the money even if your only visiting and playing golf for only
a week.  They have six courses located around the valley.  This course is in
my neighborhood and I do enjoy playing it the most.  Their signature hole is #
17, a par 3 with an elevated tee.  Play it for the yardage shown unless the wind
is into you on the tee.  They have two tee setups and both are a challenge.
Eighteen is a difficult finishing hole for a par four.  For the short hitters, do not
try for the green.  Play your second short of the wash, then go for the green
and one putt for a par.  Bogey is not a bad score on this hole.

Desert Canyon Golf Course is oldest course in my neighbor.  You deal with
elevation changes on every hole of this course.  For the money this is not a
bad round of golf.

Eagle Mountain Golf Course in and around Eagle Mountain.  Most fairways are
bowl shape, but drives not landing in the fairway will led to awkward stances.
The landing area for the drive on hole #17 is not as hard as it looks.  The
second shot to an elevated green is really more difficult.  Eighteen's second
shot test you confidence to block out the water on the right, but believe it or
not you will more than likely land in one of the traps that border the water.  Be
sure to take enough club for he third shot out of these traps, because you will
more than likely land in a trap further up the hole if you do not.

We-Ko-Pa Golf Course is located within the Yavapai nation's community of
Fort McDowell.  Play this course if you have the chance.  Several of the holes
deal with risk / reward type shots.   The course has the most dramatic and
“natural” views of the surrounding mountain ranges including the Four Peaks,
McDowell Mountains, Red Mountains and the Superstitions.  You play through
the desert arroyos and canyons of the area.

Gilbert, Arizona

Kokopelli Golf Club, Gilbert, Arizona has seven lakes that make several of your
shots very interesting, because when I have played this course the green were
like concrete.  Plan on landing the ball just short of most of the green or you
will chipping from the back or playing from a drop when it lands in the water.

Gold Canyon, Arizona

Dinosaur Mountain Course is worth the drive east of the valley.  This is a
challenging layout with severe elevation changes.  Greens have unbelievable
slopes that will make you plan your shots accordingly.  With the Superstitions
Mountains as a back drop you will enjoy your golf and the views.  The 236-yard
par 3 fifth has a tee box perched some 100-feet above a green which looks just
slightly smaller than postage stamp.  You can rarely see if your shot has
landed on the green, but the views are awesome.

Mesa, Arizona

Las Sendas Golf Course is a course that you believe is a must play, but after
leaving the course your score card indicates something different.  The greens
are extremely fast.  A two foot putt above the hole can led to a twenty foot putt
below the hole.  The course does not have the severe elevation changes that
most signature courses in the area.  This course is not for you average
weekend golfer.

Longbow Golf Club is a true desert course and one of the best deals in the
east valley.  Water only comes into play on two holes, the 9th and 15th.  This
course utilized the desert elevations in its true since.  Their practice facility will
help you prepare your golf game.

Superstition Springs Golf Club is not a typical desert course, but more typical
of what you would expect to find in Arizona.  Water hazards come into play on
11 holes.  For those in an adventurous mood, there are ample risk/reward
opportunities. Bunkers abound near the greens and are frequently present on
both sides of the fairways.  Some of the bunkers are deep and can be hard to
get a shot to the green.  Your tee shot from the 18th tee over water can be
testing.  Your second to the green is no gimme, but the backdrop of the
clubhouse makes the day.  I enjoy playing this course and will play it when the
schedule allows.

Oak Creek, Arizona

Sedona Golf Resort is part of SunCor Golf.   Their players discount card is well
worth the money even if your only visiting and playing golf for a week.  They
have six courses located around the valley.  The course has the most dramatic
and “natural” views of the surrounding red rock mountains.  Elevation
changes are very prevalent.  If you do not mind the drive or you are
vacationing in the Sedona area, play this course.  You will not be
disappointed.  During the summer months, this a place that give you a break
from the 100 degree plus heat of the valley.

Phoenix, Arizona

Club West is part of SunCor Golf.  Their players discount card is well worth
the money even if your only visiting and playing golf for a week.  They have six
courses located around the valley.  As you might guess, this is located on the
west side of phoenix.  The course is a more wide open layout, which leaves
room for errant shots.  www.suncorgolf.com/ClubWest.asp

Prescott Valley, Arizona

Stoneridge is part of SunCor Golf.  Their players discount card is well worth
the money even if your only visiting and playing golf for a week.  They have six
courses located around the valley.  This course is built within several washes
in the area.  The elevation changes are striking.  When the wind blows your
score will rise because of the lack of natural wind breaks.  I enjoyed the
course, except for where they have located the hardest holes.  You finish up
the front nine on a hard par 5, then start the back nine on a hard par 4.  Plan
your game around those holes.
