Bay Point, Florida

The Nicklaus Course (formaly Lagoon Legends) is one of my favorite golf
courses.  Water comes into play on sixteen holes.  Some of the holes actually
have a links style appearance.  My favorite holes are thirteen and eighteen.
Thirteen is a short par four with a small island green.  Make sure that you lay
up at least a hundred yards from the island green, because it makes it very
difficult to hold this small green from short range.  Eighteen has you driving
across a marsh onto an island fairway with your next shot crossing back over
a tidal area of Grand Lagoon to the green.  Now that I have said that, it looks
like Nicklaus Designs are reworking my favorite golf course.  In my opinion
they have a hard row to hoe in improving this course.

Meadows Golf Course is also located at the Bay Point Resort.  This course is
mainly for the members of the Resort, so tee times maybe at a premium.  From
the back tees you will find this to be a challenging round of golf, but from the
members tees it is forgiving.

Destin, Florida

Emerald Bay  is one of several excellent courses in the area, but I believe this
to be one of the best.  You will enjoy breathtaking views of the bay along the
back nine.  This course is really a mix with a very short par 3 that has an
undulating green, and an extremely long par five only reachable in three.
Water comes into play on ten holes.

Baytowne Golf Course at Sandestin Resort. Sandestin Resort has four 18 hole
courses.  The Baytowne Golf Course gives you the best of both worlds, with
landing areas that invite to unleash the driver, and greens that reward a
strategically placed approach shot. The front nine takes you to the edge of the
bay, while the back nine gives the guest a glimpse of the Gulf of Mexico and
the white sand beaches of Sandestin. This is a heavily bunkered, pine
tree-lined course, with elevation changes that create some of the most
spectacular views on the Sandestin property. This is a golf and family
destination.

Fort Walton Beach, Florida

Fort Walton Beach Golf Course is a municipal facility with two eighteen hole
courses.
The Oaks Course is a shorter, more narrow course with water that
comes into play on four holes. There are several dogleg fairways, and the
design puts an emphasis on precise placement off the tee. Landing areas are
almost like islands among the marshes.  The greens are also very small, and
sand bunkers are prevalent in the layout.  This is one of the better municipal
courses that I have played in Florida.

Gulf Breeze, Florida

Tiger Point Golf Course has two outstanding eighteen hole courses. The East
Course is a links-style course. When I played this course the rough was a
good 2-3 inches high, which made it a challenge.  Water that comes into play
on fourteen holes, which is typical on most Florida courses near the coast.
This is a Ron Garl and Jerry Pate design.

Kissimmee, Florida

Champions Gate Golf Resort has offers 36 holes designed by International golf
champion Greg Norman and is the World Headquarters of David Leadbetter
Golf Academy.  The International course, which is the highest rated course in
Florida, has the look and feel of a links-style layout in the British Isles and
offers a hard, fast playing surface similar to those found on true links courses.
To me the rough was a little to challenging for the average vacationing golfer.

Largo, Florida

Bayou Club is a Tom Fazio design that offers fairness, playability, and scenery
that matches your expectations.  Although I played this course with a
borrowed set of clubs, a round of golf with long time golfing buddies is always
enjoyable no matter what is on the score card.

Lynn Haven, Florida

Panama Country Club is a private course built within an established upscale
subdivision.  The fairways are standard width with fast small greens.  They
host a yearly tournament which draws golfers from all over the southeast.

Marianna, Florida

Indian Springs Golf Course has tree lined fairways that require accuracy off
the tee.  Water comes into play on six holes.  The rolling terrain lends to some
uneven lies.  The par fives tend to have a risk reward type second shot.

Panama City, Florida

Bay Dunes Golf Course was built on top of a closed out garbage dump.  This
course is wide open, so when the wind blows it can be very difficult.  Water
comes into play on ten holes.  Two of the par fours are drivable for the long
hitters.

Panama City Beach, Florida

Holiday Golf Course starts you off with a drive over water on a par five.  This
course is laid out in a clockwise pattern, which favors faders.  The interior of
this course is open to a southerly wind, and when it blows it makes this course
a real challenge.  They also have a lighted 9 hole executive par 3 course to
help you sharpen your skills.

Hombre Golf Course is where we owned a home on the green of the 12th hole,
which required accuracy off the tee with water down the right side.  Your
second shot was to an elevated green with water in front and around the right
side.  This course has water on 15 holes.  The most challenging is hole #2,
which requires a long drive with a fade off the tee and a second shot over
water to the green.  This is a challenging but enjoyable round of golf.  In 1997
it hosted one of the PGA qualifying schools.  I remember watching Jack
Nicklaus following one of his sons around the course even though he was still
recovering from his hip operation.

Signal Hill Golf Course is the first course built on Panama City Beach.  This is
what I call a vacation course.  Enjoyable, but not a very challenging course
with the back nine built among the sugar white sand dunes.  When the wind
blows with your drive on #17 you can reach the green on this par 4.

Seminole, Florida

Seminole Lake Country Club is the home course for a long time golfing buddy.
Water comes into play on twelve holes.  You must deal with narrow fairways
and small greens.  Because I am at a disadvantage when playing a course
which Al plays every week, my only hope of survival is double or nothing on
the last hole.  This is a private course.

Sunny Hills, Florida

Sunny Hills Golf Course is located in a retirement community north of Panama
City, Florida.  This is an inexpensive round of golf and you get what you pay
for with this round of golf.  Unless you are in the area, this is quite a drive.

Tyndall Air Force Base, Florida

Pelican Point Golf Course is a military course that runs along Saint Andrews
Bay.  Water comes into play on five holes, but the average golfer will enjoy this
course for its golf and scenery.
